Caution: what you should never do

A course from the Academy: AI made easy: your first steps

Go to the quiz ↓

This is the most important lesson in this course. AI is a formidable ally, provided you follow three simple, absolute rules of caution.

Rule 1: never your secrets

Never give an AI (or anyone on the internet): your passwords, your bank card number, your banking codes. No serious AI will ever ask you for them. If you are asked for them, it's a scam, close the page.

Rule 2: it can be confidently wrong

AI always answers with a confident tone… even when it's wrong. For a recipe, it doesn't matter. But for your health, your money, or your rights: AI helps you understand and prepare your questions, the decision is made with a real professional: doctor, pharmacist, notary, banker.

Rule 3: beware of voices on the phone

Scammers use AI to mimic a loved one's voice on the phone: "It's me, I've had an accident, send me money fast." The voice sounds real, but it's a fake. The right reflex: hang up and call your loved one back on their usual number. Better still: agree with your loved ones on a "family password" that only real relatives know.

Analogy. AI is like a charming door-to-door salesperson: you can chat pleasantly about anything, but you don't hand over your keys or your card PIN, and you always check big news with family before acting.

To remember

  • Passwords and card numbers: never, to anyone, anywhere.
  • Health, money, law: AI prepares, the professional decides.
  • A loved one's voice in distress on the phone: hang up, call their real number back.
