Writing with AI without losing your voice
A course from the Academy: Creating with AI: images, videos and ideas
Go to the quiz ↓AI-assisted writing has a trap nobody warns you about: all texts end up sounding the same. The same smooth tone, the same turns of phrase, the same lack of personality. Here's how to use the power without falling into the mush.
The four moments where AI excels
- Brainstorming: "give me 20 angles to cover X". You throw away 18 ideas, keep 2 gems.
- Structure: "propose an outline for...". The skeleton, not the flesh.
- Unblocking: stuck on a paragraph? Ask for three versions, take what unblocks you, rewrite.
- Proofreading: typos, repetitions, confusing sentences: "review and flag issues WITHOUT rewriting".
Keeping your voice
The secret: show your style instead of describing it. Paste two or three of your texts and ask: "analyse my style, then write this paragraph LIKE ME". It's ten times more effective than "write in a dynamic and warm way", which AI interprets the same for everyone.
And above all: the final pass is always yours. Read it aloud, cut what doesn't sound like you, add the anecdote only you know. That last quarter of an hour makes the difference between a generated text and a written one.
The tics to watch for
AI loves certain gimmicks: three-part sentences that echo each other, "it's not X, it's Y", grandiloquent conclusions, hollow adjectives (crucial, essential, must-have). When you spot them, strike back: "rewrite without emphasis, simple sentences, zero clichés".
Key takeaways
- AI shines upstream (ideas, outline) and downstream (proofreading), you in the middle.
- Show your texts to convey your style, don't describe it.
- The final pass is always yours: that's what makes the text.
