Opening an AI: where to go, and it's free

A course from the Academy: Your very first attempt, step by step

Go to the quiz ↓

No need to install anything. An AI like ChatGPT is used in the browser, the very one you're reading this page on.

Three addresses, take your pick

The best-known are chatgpt.com, claude.ai and gemini.google.com. They all look much the same: a nearly blank page, with a bar at the bottom where you type. Pick whichever you like; you can switch later.

Do you have to pay?

No. Each offers a free version, more than enough for everything covered in this course. The paid tiers are for those who use them for hours a day.

Do you need an account?

Mostly yes, with an email address. That's what lets you find your conversations from one day to the next. If you'd rather try without, some pages allow it, but your exchanges vanish when you close the tab.

What to do now

Open one of these three addresses in a new tab. Don't type anything yet. Just look at the page: a large empty area, and an input bar. That's it. The next lesson deals with what you write there.
