MCP (Model Context Protocol)
An open standard launched by Anthropic in late 2024 to connect an AI to external tools and data: messaging platforms, databases, business software. Adopted well beyond Claude, it is establishing itself as the universal connector for agents.
In other words
The USB-C port of AI: a single connector to plug in any tool, without a proprietary cable for each device.

- Agent protocols move to neutral governance
Google's A2A protocol has joined the foundation that already governs Anthropic's MCP, bringing the main players together around a common stack of standards. Here's what that changes.
- What is MCP? The protocol that lets an AI plug into your tools
The Model Context Protocol has become the standard enabling AI models to connect to external tools and data sources. We explain what it does, why it was adopted so quickly, and the security questions it raises.
