Your first episode, from A to Z
A course from the Academy: Voice, sound and podcasting with AI
Go to the quiz ↓You have everything you need. This last lesson puts the pieces together in the order you actually use them, with the method used every week for the Alyriaz podcast.
1. The format, first
Decide once and for all: the length (3 to 5 minutes is ideal to start), the rhythm (every Sunday, every month…), and the voice (solo, or two voices talking to each other). Consistency matters more than length: a kept appointment builds loyalty better than a long episode now and then.
2. The outline of an episode
- The opening: who's speaking, the episode number, the period, and a hook. "Hey everyone, this is Alyriaz! Episode one. The week of September twenty-first to twenty-seventh…"
- The line-up in one sentence: three topics, no more.
- The topics, one per segment, each with a reaction.
- Quick hits: the small news, fast.
- The takeaway: what to remember, as a real conclusion.
- The sign-off: where to find more, and goodbye.
3. Production
- Write one segment of text per topic: the musical transitions will go between these segments.
- Have your voice read each segment, then transcribe it to check the diction.
- Assemble: intro, segments and transitions, outro; set the loudness to about -16 LUFS.
- Listen to the whole episode once, like a listener: on the go, with earphones.
4. Publish and keep going
Add the episode to your feed at the planned time. Then keep a list of what you improve from one episode to the next: the words your voice mispronounces, the settings that sound best, the phrases that work. That list is what turns a trial into a show.
Key takeaways
- Format decided in advance; consistency before length.
- Opening, line-up, topics, quick hits, takeaway, sign-off.
- One segment per topic, diction checked, loudness around -16 LUFS.
- A list of improvements kept from episode to episode.
