Getting your texts proofread, corrected, and rewritten.

A course from the Academy: Getting exactly what you want

Go to the quiz ↓

This is where it works best, because it requires no new knowledge: the text already exists, she works on it.

The three requests, from lightest to heaviest

"Only correct spelling and grammar. Don't change anything else." Precision matters: without it, she rewrites everything and you lose your voice.

"Point out heavy or ambiguous sentences to me, without rewriting them." She becomes a proofreader instead of an author. You keep control over every correction, and you improve.

"Rewrite this paragraph, more direct." The heaviest one, to be reserved for passages that resist.

The smoothing trap

If you have her rewrite everything, your text becomes correct and perfectly interchangeable. What makes a text yours is often its rough edges: an unusual turn of phrase, a sentence that's too long but breathes just right. She removes them, because she gravitates toward the average.

The right setting: she reviews, you decide.

Comparing two versions

"Give me three versions of this sentence: a neutral one, a warm one, a firm one."

You're not looking for her to choose, but to see your sentence from several angles before deciding. It's easier to recognise what you want than to invent it.

What to do now

Take a text you've written. Ask only for the spelling correction, then separately for heavy sentences flagged without rewriting. Correct them yourself.
