DeepSeek V4: what exactly is it?

To put it simply, think of AI as an employee. Until now, most AIs (like ChatGPT) behaved like brilliant "juniors" or "interns": they answered quickly, but lost the thread on very large projects. DeepSeek V4 (release still to come in April 2026) behaves like a "senior software architect".

How has the AI gained in "wisdom"?

DeepSeek V4's technological feat rests on several easy-to-understand pillars:

  • Infinite memory (the "Tokens"): V4 can read 1 million "tokens" at once. A token is a piece of a word. 1 million is the equivalent of a stack of 15 books of 300 pages... which the AI can read, understand and retain in a single second. It can swallow an entire company's computer code and understand it as a whole.
  • The team of experts ("Mixture-of-Experts"): Rather than having a single slow mega-brain thinking about everything, V4 has been split into lots of specialised "little brains" (one for maths, one for code, one for language). When it is asked a question, it only wakes up the relevant expert. The result? The AI is lightning-fast and costs far less in electricity!
The little technical secret: The Engram
DeepSeek has built in a technology called "Engram memory". It is a bit like a system of virtual post-it notes that lets the AI recall something instantly instead of having to re-read the whole text from the beginning.

Why is it a political victory?

Creating massive AI models traditionally requires hyper-expensive American graphics cards (GPUs) supplied by Nvidia. DeepSeek has pulled off the feat of making its model compatible with chips from other manufacturers (notably Huawei Ascend architectures). This shows that it is now possible to beat the American giants without depending on their own hardware!

We will not fail to offer you a detailed analysis and a full new article on the subject as soon as the model is officially released, to test its limits!
